Puss In Boots The Last Wish Review: One Of The Best Animated Films In Years!!!

Puss in Boots The Last Wish has finally released in the UK and I have now been able to watch the film in all its glory.

Puss in Boots The Last Wish is truly as good as everyone has been saying and is by far one of the best animated films to come out in years. The story focuses on Puss having only one life left and setting off on a mission to find the wishing star. It’s a quite simple story but is a very emotional and impactful one. Puss goes on an incredible journey in this film where he goes from having this big ego due to being a legend to finding out what really matters to him.

The side characters in this film are also fantastic. Staring with Salma Hayaks Kitty Softpaws who is a great partner for Puss. Both Antonio and Salma have fantastic chemistry and bounce off each other perfectly they really are a perfect match. Florence Pugh also does a great job as the voice of Goldilocks, who in the trailer comes off as a generic villain but when you see the film you see the complexities of her character and at the end of the day she is just looking for her family. The filmmakers use her character to show that family can come from anywhere even if you are different you can still be a family and that’s a beautiful message. Now I can’t forget my favourite character from this film and that is Harvey Guillens Perro who is a fantastic addition to the Shrek Universe. He is absolutely hilarious everything he is on screen but also has one of the most heartbreaking backstories ever. He is very much the Donkey to a Puss and I hope we see a lot more of him in the future.

I would also like to shoutout the animation style used in this film. It’s very unique and makes it standout from other animated films out there right now. The action in this film is absolutely great as well and is up there with the action scenes from the Spider-verse films.

Finally I would like to touch on the ending which shows Puss, Softpaws and Perro going to the land of Far Far Away and teases the return of the Shrek franchise in full. DreamWorks hasn’t announced any future Shrek films but with the success of this film I am hopeful to see more of this universe and a proper Shrek sequel with Shrek 5.

That’s my review of Puss In Boots The Last Wish, so have you seen the film and what did you think of it.

Box Office- Knock at the cabin takes the top spot but Avatar continues to climb!!!

This weeks box office report is here and it’s a good one!!!

The box office has finally started to become more competitive once again with several big films battling it out for the top spot. Avatar 2 was finally knocked off the top spot by this weeks new release Knock at the Cabin. M Night Shyamalan’s new feature opened with $14.2 million. Even though it was number 1 that is a decrease from his last film Old that opened back in the middle of the pandemic in 2021, where it opened to $16.9 million. This clearly shows that audiences don’t trust the quality of his films of his films plus with the mixed reception for this one.

Avatar The Way of Water came it at number 2 with a strong $10.6 million in its 8th weekend. Domestically it sits at $636.6 million and worldwide currently sits at $2.17 Billion. It is slowly creeping up to Titanic to become the third biggest film of all time.

However a film that over performed this week was Paramounts new all star comedy 80 For Brady which opened with a strong $12.5 million showing that older audiences do feel comfortable once again to come back to the theatres in force.

Megan is still going strong despite being available for digital purchase as it made another $3.8 million. Puss In Boots the Last Wish also crossed $200 million oversees after it opened in the UK to a strong $6.1 million. It’s global total stands at $368.6 million.

That is the box office report for this week. What did you watch and what do you plan on watching?

The new DC Universe

The wait is finally over. James Gunn and Peter Safran have announced their first lot of projects for the new DC Universe. They have revealed the first lot of projects in Chapter 1 called ‘ Gods and Monsters’.

Creature Commandos

The first project of the new DC slate is Creature Commandos. This will be an animated series, most likely for HBO Max. James Gunn has written all the episodes already and this is already in production. The cast is yet to be announced however, Gunn did state that the talent doing the voices would also play the same characters in live action. This is expected 2024/ early 2025.

Waller

The next project in line is the Waller spinoff show. This will be a continuation of The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker season 1 storyline. Viola Davies will return and James Gunn also teased other characters from Peacemaker could also show up. This show has also already been written and will most likely come out in Late 2024. Gunn also teased a season 2 of Peacemaker but said he was busy writing Superman at the moment.

Superman: Legacy

This will be the first mainline project in the new DCU. It was announced a few months ago that James Gunn was writing a new Superman film based on a younger version of that character. No casting has been made yet but it will be released July 11 2025.

Lanterns

Finally a Green Lantern show May finally be being made. A Green Lantern show has been in the works since the very beginning of HBO Max but now we are finally getting one. This series has been described as being in the same vein as True Detective and will focus on the two most popular lanterns, Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart.

The Authority

James Gunn has stated this is a passion project for him. It will focus on a group of superhero’s that believe the world needs fixing at any cost. There are rumours that they could pop up again later down the line to fight Superman in another project.

Paradise Lost

Another series that has been talked about for a while is an Amazon spinoff. This show will focus on Themasicra before Wonder Woman was born and explore the origins of the amazons. This has been described as a prequel to the Wonder Woman films but nothing is concrete as of yet if it does directly link to Gal Gadots version of the character.

Batman: The Brave and The Bold

Another new Batman enters the arena. The new DCU Batman will be introduced here alongside Robin. This version of Robin will be Damian Wayne who is an assassin and obviously linked to the league of Asians through his mom. This will be completely separate from what Matt Reeves is doing with his Batman Universe.

Booster Gold

The next project revealed today was a series revolving around the character Booster Gold, who comes back from the future to become a superhero.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

A new Supergirl movie is in development based off the comic of the same name. This has been described as a much grittier version of the character then what we have seen before.

Swamp Thing

The final project announced today was Swamp Thing. This is being described as a horror movie. This character was attempted a few years ago but the show was cancelled after one episode due to behind the scene issues.

That’s it for now. What is your favourite project and are you excited about the new DC Universe forming.

Netflix Top 10- Ginny and Georgia continues to dominate!!!!

The Netflix ratings for the week of January 9- 15 are here.

Starting with the TV side of things, season 2 of Ginny and Georgia continues to do really strong numbers with over 167 million hours viewed in its second week. The show is clearly attracting new viewers as well as season 1 has risen to second place with over 63 million hours watched. This is a clear big hit for Netflix so expect a season 3 announcement in the coming weeks.

A show that didn’t do as well in its second week on the service is Kaleidoscope which fell to 5th place with only 46 million hours watched. Clearly anyone who wanted to watch it did in its first week and due to the mixed reception people weren’t enticed to check it out.

In other news, Wednesday is still doing strong numbers in its eighth week on the service. The second season of Vikings Valhalla also debuted with softer numbers coming in at number 4 with with 55 million hours viewed.

Now moving onto the movie side of things, all the numbers were quite soft with The Pale Blue Eye taking the number 1 spot in its second with just under 40 million hours watched. Glass Onion is still going strong in third place. Rob Lowe also had his movie debut at number 4 with 18 million hours watched.

That’s it for this weeks Netflix chart. What did you watch this last week on Netflix?

M3gan Review- A crazy new horror icon is born!!!

I have finally been able to see Megan and what a crazy ride it was. It had comedic moments, horror moments and emotional moments all tied together in this thrilling film.

Megan is the perfect modern horror film. It takes the idea of modern technology and splices it with the classic horror films like Chucky. Megan looked like it was going to be a lot of fun but i didn’t expect to be laughing as much as I was. However, what is great about Megan is that the comedic moments don’t take away from the dark horror moments of the film. One minute you can be in hysterics and then the next you can be in the edge if your seat just waiting to see what Megan will do next.

The film also manages to tell a great story about grief as well as it focuses around Candy who loses her parents and then moves in with her aunt who is the crater of Megan. It does a good job showcasing how far technology has advanced and how much we rely on it to assist us and help us look after everything. This films shows a to real looking future where something similar to Megan could exist and how that would affect kids.

Overall Megan is such a good film and a great way to spend to hours at the multiplex. I would highly recommend giving this a watch when you can!!!

Netflix Top 10- Ginny and Georgia dominates!!!

The Netflix top 10 are in for the week of January 2- January 8.

Starting with TV, Wednesday finally lost the top spot in its 7th week on the service but still had very strong numbers and has now finally been renewed for a second season. Taking the top spot this week was Ginny and Georgia season 2 with a big debut of over 180 million hours. The show runners has recently said they have a season 3 and 4 mapped out and with numbers like this it’s highly likely we will see them.

The new experimental show Kaleidoscope came in at second place with just over 112 million hours watched. This show had a lot of people taking due to the different ways you could watch the show. It was interesting to see how people felt about different characters based on which order they watched in. With this number I wouldn’t be surprised if they tried this with more shows in the future.

Now moving over to movies, not much has changed from the previous week. Glass Onion is still on top of the charts with over 88 million hours watched in its third week on the service. It is currently now their fifth biggest film. The third one is currently being written and it will be interesting to see if that can become even bigger then this one.

That’s it for this week, what did you watch on Netflix this week?

Netflix Top 10- Wednesday still on top, Glass Onion gets bigger .

Netflix’s top 10 for the week of December 26- January 1 has been released.

Starting with the TV side of things, Wednesday is still doing big numbers in its 6th week on the service. There has been several reports this week claiming that Wednesday would be moving to amazon as they now own MGM. However it has been confirmed that won’t be happening so we are just waiting for the renewal from Netflix. They may be working in a several season renewal and redoing contract with its main cast, so that could explain why it’s taking longer.

Emily in Paris Season 3 is also still doing strong numbers in its second week and also had both its previous seasons pop up in the top 10 as well. This seems to be a sleeper hit for Netflix as not many people talk about it, unless they are saying how bad it is, but it doesn’t stop peole from tuning in expect a season 4 announcement in the coming weeks.

In other news, Treason debuted at number 4 and had soffits h numbers, however that can be due to the smaller amount of episodes and shows that Charlie Cox is a draw for people on the small screen. The Recruit is also still doing good numbers and I wouldn’t be surprised if we got a season 2 announcement for that soon as well. The Witcher Blood Origins has also gone up but is still nowhere near the original show, meaning that it looks like the show may be in danger without Henry Cavil in the main role.

Over on the movie side, Glass Onion exploded on the service after Christmas and is now in track to be the third biggest film of all time for Netflix. This will surely make the executives who made hundreds of millions of dollars to secure this franchise and the next two films. With the release of the third instalment it will be in testing to see if they keep the same strategy used for Glass Onion or if they allow it to be in theatres for a longer duration.

The new Matilda Musical managed to debut at number 2 and even though it didn’t debut with the strongest numbers it has been doing well in the UK, where it has been playing in cinemas over the Christmas period. However it had a better debut then White Noise which only came in at 4th place. I did watch that film and I must say it is a weird one and defiantly not for everyone.

That is Netflix’s rating, what did you watch and did any of those numbers surprise you?

Most anticipated movies of 2023

Goodbye 2022, and hello 2023. 2023 has now officially begun meaning as whole brand new year for moviegoing. 2022 had some great films however 2023 is packed to the rim with all different types of films. These are my most anticipated for the year.

10- Blue Beetle

Kicking off this list i wanted to include a DC film however with the most recent announcements it seems that they will now be leading nowhere as James Gunn potentially reboots the DC Universe. Blue Beetle is an exception as we don’t really know if its connected to anything and brings the character to life for the first time in live action. This was originally slated for streaming but was promoted to a theatrical run based on the quality of the film.

9- Barbie

If this film is good then expect it to be very big. The behind the scenes look and teaser have already lit the Internet ablaze. Not much is known about what this film actually is other than that the fantastic Greta Gerwig is directing and that it has an all star cast including Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, Emma Mackey and Ncuti Gatwa to name a few.

8- Fast X

The fast franchise is back for it’s tenth outing and this film has been talked about a lot. First you had The Rock saying he wasn’t coming back for good, to the director leaving, to the budget skyrocketing. However no matter how ridiculous these films get you can always guarantee that you will have an absolute blast going to see them. Fast X is the start of the end to this franchise as it’s been confirmed it will be ending with Fast 11, so it will be interesting to see how this film sets up the ending and how much more ridiculous this franchise can get.

7- Mission Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part 1

After the massive success of Top Gun Maverick last year, Tom Cruise is hoping to recapture that success with the final tow films in the Mission Impossible franchise. A few of the stunts we have seen them film look spectacular and Tom Cruise always likes to make them bigger every movie. I have absolutely loved the past few films so I am very excited for this next instalment.

6- Oppenheimer

Christopher Nolan returns to the big screen in a big way. Not only is this his first film after departing Warner Brothers but it’s one of his biggest film to date. The trailer didn’t give away much but it showed off some amazing visuals and of course it’s been revealed that he created one of the explosions practically instead of using VFX. The cast for this movie is also stacked with heavy hitters such as Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr and Emily Blunt to name a few.

5- Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny.

After years and years of delays Indiana Jones 5 is finally coming out with Harrison Ford confirming that this is the last outing for this character. With James Mangold taking over directing reigns I have very high hopes for this as he did a magnificent job wrapping up Wolverines story in Logan back in 2017. Looking at the trailer that was recently realised it looks like a lot of fun and Harrison Ford just slips back into the character as if he never stopped playing him.

4- Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse.

I like a lot of people underestimated the first film before it came out, however after seeing it, I was happily surprised. The first one has become one of the best comic book movies ever made so a lot rises on this sequel to match up to the first one. This one seems to be going a lot bigger and exploring the multiverse in a big way so I expect this is going to be a lot of fun.

3- Ant-man And The Wasp- Quantumania

The first Marvel movie that will be released in 2023 is the third instalment in the Ant-man franchise and looks to be the biggest out of all of them. Director Payton Reed has stated that he wanted this film to have an Avengers scale threat and with the big bad of this current saga Kang being apart of this gives me a lot of hope for this film. This could be the film to show where phase 4 was leading and to set a clear direction for the futer of the MCU.

2- The Little Mermaid

Disney’s live action remakes can be very hit and miss, however based on the small teaser Disney has released for this so far the film looks absolutely stunning. Halle Bailey looks to be perfect casting for Ariel as she has an absolutely beautiful voice. This new version also has new songs from the one and only Lin- Manuel Miranda and if they are as big of a hit as Encanto and Hamilton then Disney will have another big hit on their hands.

1- Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3

This is the final film with this current team and by James Gunn as he departs Marvel to head up DC. James has promised that this film will be super emotional with multiple deaths. All we really know us that by the end of this movie we will all be emotional wrecks and the guardians will look very different.

Avatar: The Way Of water- A Pure Cinematic Masterpiece.

After 13 years of waiting Avatar 2 has finally arrived in theatres and it did not disappoint. everything in this film is movies at its best from the visuals, acting and action. This is a must see on the big screen, so if you don’t have tickets get them now because this is an experience you don’t want to miss.

I enjoyed the first Avatar but was never a massive fan of it. I think the biggest advantage to this franchise is seeing it on the big screen and I never saw the first one in a cinema, I actually only watched it for the first time last year on Disney Plus. I was intrigued to see this new film but I wasn’t overly excited but the experience was everything you could want and more.

Starting with the visuals of this film. You have never see a film look this good before, not even the trailers do it justice. The environments look so real you would think James Cameron flew to Pandora and filmed i there. The water scenes especially;at look outstanding and you can see why they decided to film under water as the effect that has is magnificent. The biggest achievement VFX wise of this film is of course the Navi themselves. All the way from the way they move to their facial expressions, they feel alive thanks to do amazing work from the VFX team and I of course the amazing work from the actors. While watching this film there is no doubt that you will believe they are real and not VFX aliens.

Moving onto the performances in this movie. Everyone does a fantastic job here, especially with the face acting which comes through perfectly on the Navi faces. However there are two standout performances in this film and that is Zoe Saldana as Neytiri and Britain Dalton as their youngest son Lo’ak. Zoe Saldana gives some emotionally powerful performances in this film. This is the best i have seen her to date and makes me hope that her character has a larger film going forward as she felt slightly sidelined this time around so that they could focus on the farther son dynamic.

Now Avatar 2 introduces a lot of new characters to the franchisee, my favourite being Lo’ak. The whole story of him feeling inadequate for his family and bonding with the Tulkin make for an incredibly moving story. This is supported by the great perforce of Britain Dalton who is able to sell every emotional beat.

You many have heard that the story is basically the same as the first film and in some aspects that is right, as when you simplify it the humans are back for pandora and the Navi have to protect their home. However this film is much more complex then the first. This is as it deals with the hunting of Tulkin in the i ocean and has a much stronger family dynamic and how family’s come in all different shapes and seizes. Also with the addition of the new characters it makes the film feel larger and has more depth to it.

Overall Avatar 2 isn’t just a film but a cinematic experience that I highly recommend you experience. Yes your will be able to stream it on Disney Plus later down the line, but you won’t get the seam experience that you will get in a theater. This is a must see.

DC reboot in full swing?

The news has broke that Henry Cavil will not be returning to the DC universe as superman again. It has been revealed by James Gunn that he in fact writing a script for a new superman movie that will focus on the younger years of the character, however it will not be an origin story. This means that they will be casting a new actor to play the role of superman.

The big question now is, does this signal the start of a reboot for the DCEU. This is as it was recently rereleased that Wonder Woman 3 was cancelled and its being heavily rumoured that Jason momoa will cease to play Aquaman and instead be recast as Lobo. This also doesnt sound like good news for Dwayne Johnson either as by getting rid of Cavill it seems more liklkey that Black Adam 2 wont come into to fruition. We should have a more clear picture of what this new DC universe looks like in January as James Gunn has promised that in the new year he can start to announce the first slate of movies coming from DC studios.

It will be interesting to see if they decide to do a full reboot that begins with this new superman movie or if they keep some aspects of the old universe. James Gunn has also confirmed that he has met with Ben Affleck to discuss him directing a future DC film its just about finding the right project for him, however it does make it sound like he is done with Batman now as well. For example it is still being reported that they want Gal Gadot to continue playing Wonder Woman. There is also the fact that james Gunn has season 2 of peacemaker in development and has been very vocal about wanting to work more with Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. This means that we could end up in a case where we start from scratch however a through things carry over such as james Gunns Suicide Squad.

At the end of the day we will just have to wait and see what the future for the DC Universe holds.
