Fear The Walking Dead Season 7 came to a close this evening with the finale. This season has been quite a controversial one with many fans critiquing the writing and the slow pacing of the season. One of the biggest critiques of the season has been the anthology story telling. This worked really well in season 6, however it made season 7 drag and made you bored of the story as it was taking to long to get to the next big story point.
However going into season 8 it seems to be a bit more promising. This is as in the finale we saw the return of Madison Clarke played by the wonderful Kim Dickens, whose character was last seen in the mid season finale of season 4 all the way back in 2018. Her character was assumed dead after saving her family by distracting the walkers in the stadium. With the return of her character, we get the heart off the show back as she was the original protagonist of the show. It will also be interesting to see how characters such as Strand, Luciana and Daniel react to finding out she is alive. It is a disappointment that we won’t get a reunion with Alicia, however it makes sense due to the fact Alicia Debnam-Carey decided to leave the show after 7 seasons. With the return of Madison Clarke hopefully we will again start to focus on the main characters and forget the individual anthology telling of the show.
It also seems that we are finally going to have one focused story next season, with Morgan and Madison trying to expose Padre for what it is and to help rescue the children that Padre have stolen. This is promising as for the last few seasons the show has just been about these characters trying to find a safe place to live. Hopefully this new story helps give some direction to the show.
Moving to the future of Fear, I believe that it’s days are numbered with either season 8 being the final season or them making season 9 the final season. The show has become to large and has lost its focus so it’s time to warp it up. It would make sense for Morgan to find out Rick is alive and in trouble and have his character set off on a mission to find him, similar towhat Michonne is doing. Also as they love their spinoff shows I would have one focusing on Madison and Strand on a mission to find out what happened to Alicia and have them go off on their own journey to find her.
