Box Office Report: Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3 has a solid opening!!!

The highly anticipated Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3 opened this past week and had a solid debut at the box office. It opens to $115 million domestic, now while that isn’t terrible it is significantly less then what Vol 2 opened with back in 2017. It does look like Quantumania and Thor 4 did do some damage to the Marvel brand, however due to the fantastic audience scores that Vol 3 has received I have a feeling it will have strong legs over the coming weeks.

This has already been demonstrated overseas where it crushed box office expectations and brought in a massive $168.4 million. It’s reported that this strong opening is due to the word of mouth, so it should have the same effect on the US box office in the coming weeks. It’s total opening worldwide was $282.1 Million. This will be a waiting game to see how it performs overall to see how people feel about not just the MCU but comic book films all together.

It is also important to note that when it comes to the MCU they have already started to course correct as they have been delaying a lot of their projects to give them more time. Kevin Feige has also come out publicly and said that they won’t be putting as much content out as well in the future which has also hurt Marvel.

However Universal must be jumping with joy as The Super Mario Bros Movie continues to make that cash. As it now has a massive $515.5 Million domestically and globally has made $1.15 Billion. The movie is performing that good that Universal decided to push its digital release by another week. However with more big movies coming out now you will start to see it come down as people go and see the newer movies.

Evil Dead Rise also continues to be a big horror winner as it grossed a strong $5.7 Million in it its third weekend and currently has $54.1 domestically. However it’s doing great everywhere as it has crossed $100 million globally, so expect this franchise to come roaring back to life with more sequels announced.

That’s it for this week, did you go and see Guardians of The Galaxy Vol 3 and what did you think about it?

Box Office Report: Super Mario Brothers inches to a billion!!!

The box office report for the past weekend is in and there is a lot to discuss.

In its third weekend The Super Mario Brothers Movie broke another record for animated movies as it has has the best 3rd weekend for an animated movie at the domestic box office, bringing in a big $58.2 million. It has also become the 2nd fasted animated film to cross £400 million at the domestic box office. It’s current domestic total sits at $434.3 million.

Mario is also still doing mega business overseas as well , as it has also managed to cross $400 million overseas for a global total of a massive $871.8 million. It is expected to cross 1 billion within the next week. In addition to this it finally opens in Japan next weekend where the film could make a lot of money. With the massive success of this film a sequel must defiantly be being discussed along with other Nintendo projects.

Warner Brothers Discovery also finally had a win this weekend. Evil Dead Rise was originally set to debut on HBO Max but was moved to theatres in their new release strategy. This ended up being a great idea as it beat industry projections and opened with a strong $23.6 million domestically. It also grossed a strong $16.8 million overseas, for a global total of $40.3 million. As this only cost $19 million to produce the breads at Warner Bros must be very happy and could signal the return of this iconic franchise.

That’s it for this weeks box Office report. How high up the charts do you think Mario will go?

The Mandalorian Season 3 Finale Breakdown- Din and Grogu are everything!!!

The season 3 Mandalorian finale has arrived and surprisingly it was a very wholesome episode which some great action scenes.

This episode finally did what we have been promised all season and that is that the Mandalorians finally recaptured Mandalore. This has been being teased even before the season started and we finally saw that come to fruition.

Rick Famuyiwa directed this episode and just the same as last weeks episode the actions scenes were fantastic. The majority of this epsidoe was filled with action sequences but they were all great in their own way, as Rick is really good at delivering big action sequences.

My favourite one by far was the one at the end where Din, Bo and Grogu teamed up to take down Moff Gideon. Seeing them all fight in unison and to see both Din and Bo keep jumping in the way of Grogu to protect him was honestly so wholesome. You also had that amazing last shot in the sequence of Grogu using the force to create a type of bubble to protect them all from the explosion. The family dynamic created by these three this season has been one of the highlights and I hope we don’t lose that going into season 4, as it seems they are going their seperate ways.

However another great scene was seeing the Mandalorian air battle where you had Bo Katan lead the charge with the Darksaber and take on the imperials. It was nice to actually get to see the Darksaber in action as even though its been around since season 1 it is hardly ever used in the battles. It was sad to see it destroyed by Moff Gideon in this episode but I’m hoping they will be able to fix it some how because it is a great weapon and has a lot of history in the Star Wars universe.

This finale also saw the downfall of Moff Gideon as he was killed in the explosion. However i do think he can return in the future as they called set up he has cloned himself and although the clones on Mandalore was destroyed that’s doesn’t mean he doesn’t have any more somewhere else. Also i think its clear we are moving away from Moff Gideon anyway and moving onto Thrawn being the big bad of the whole Mando universe, so if Moff really is gone then that would make sense to transition Thrawn in now, which they are doing with Ahsoka.

The highlight of this episode for me was the whole relationship between Din and Grogu. Throughout the whole show their relationship has been integral but it all seems to come to a head here. We get to see both Din and Grogu put themselves in damages to protect each other. I especially loved the fight between them and the Petronius Guards where Grogu helped Din by flinging them across the room using the force.

The show ended on a really wholesome note which i was surprised about because i was expecting our hearts to be ripped out by the end. Instead Din finally adopted Grogu as his own to become Din Grogu and now they really are the perfect family. However i was half expecting a post credit scene announcing a Bo Katan spinoff show as the ending kind of set up her mission to rebuild Mandalore to what is was while Din and Grogu adventure across the Galaxy in season 4.

Speaking of season 4 it looks like we know what direction that will be going in and it looks like its going back to basics. This season really pushed Din into the background to focus on the Mandalorians as a whole. Season 4 looks to be shifting the focus back onto Din and Grogu as they travel the galaxy helping the New Republic, while Din trains Grogu to become a Mandalorian.

Now the waiting game begins to see how the overall strong continues in Ahsoka this august. What did you think of the finale and with it looking like they are going back to basics with season 4 are you excited for that?

Box Office Report: Super Mario Brothers Movie continues to reign!!!!

The Super Mario Brothers Movie contained to dominate the box office this past weekend at the box office. In its second weekend it managed to only fall 41% and brought in a massive $87 million domestic. It has now broken the record for the best second weekend for an animated film ever. Universal must see the money that is in these Nintendos property’s and are most likely working on what projects to put out next as they are sat on a lot of properties that clearly a lot of people are interested in.

It also contained to do great business overseas as well as it brought in a spectacular $94.1 million overseas, with a also very strong hold of just dropping 44.9%. It currently stands at $678 million worldwide and is projected to make over $1 billion when all is said and done.

However it wasn’t all good news for Universal this weekend, as people clearly weren’t in the mood for vampires as Renfield only managed to bring in a disappointing $7.7 million. If this had been released during Halloween I feel it would of done much better as it very much is the Halloween version of Violent Night that came out for Christmas last year.

The Popes Exorcist also opens this weekend but also came under expectations grossing just $9.1 million but this film does have a significantly lower budget compared to Renfield so will have an easier time becoming profitable.

John Wick Chapter 4 continues to have good hold for the franchise and has now become the highest grossing film of the franchise having a strong global total of $349.1 Million. Talking about good holds Air also had a solid hold falling only 46% in its second weekend and brought in a solid $7.7 million and has crossed $50 million worldwide. The word of mouth on this film has been excellent so will explode when it hits Amazon Prime.

Finally some good news for Dungeons and Dragons as it had a solid hold in its third week brining in $7.4 million domestic. However it held even better overseas dropping just 11% brining in in $13.8 million. Clearly people are staring to take notice to this now Mario has been released and hopefully this will build momentum for when it hits straining where it should explode.

That’s it for the box office report this week, what did you watch in theatres this weekend?

The Mandalorian Season 3 Ep7: One of the best episodes of the show yet!!!

Season 3 of The Mandalorian has been rocky to say the least but this episode made it all worth it. Not only is the the best episode of the season but also one of the best episodes of the show overall.

This episode started out with the reveal that Moff Gideon was out and working as part of a shadow council of the empire. It started off with a bang with the council talking about the rerun if Thrawn to lead the p empire against the New Republic. This is very exciting as it finally feels we have some direction and stats to connect all the shows together. We know that Thrawn is returning in Ahsoka so it will be very interesting to see how that connects to the already confined season 4.

The rest of the episode focused on what we were promised all along this season and that is the retaking of Mandalore. Bo Katan has managed to unite the different functions in order to retake their home planet. It was very nice finally see them attempt to retake this as we have been promised this since the beginning of season 3.

Before they retook Mandalore we got one of my favourite things of this episode. IG-11 returned this episode but instead of its own self returned as a sort of vehicle for Grogu to control. This was an absolutely brilliant idea as Grogu now has his own little droid and can somewhat communicate. Hearing Grogu talk through the droid was absolutely hilarious. Also it was nice seeing him break up the fight between the two Mandalorians, he would make a great Jedi.

Another aspect this episode had was really amazing action sequences. The big fights involving all of the Mandalorians were just fantastic and provided and really good energy to the episode which the last few episodes have been lacking.

What an emotional ending though, seeing that Moff Gideon had already set up a base on Mandalore and had designed new armour with Beskar steel. Seeing Paz get taken down was so sad. He sacrificed himself to save his people and it was an absolutely amazing scene. Although even though it was really sad it was still cool to see the Praetorian Guards return.

I honestly have no idea how this season is going to end next week, but I am very excited to see what they do after this fantastic episode and how they wrap it all up.

Super Mario Brothers Movie smashes expectations!!!

The box office report is in and there is a lot to talk about.

The Super Mario Brothers Movie opens this week and blew industry expectations out of the window. Over its five day opening it made a record $204.6 Million to become the biggest 5 day opening ever at the US. It’s also the second biggest three day opening for animation bringing in a massive $146.4 million, just under The Incredibles 2 opening. The film also smashed records overseas bringing in $172.9 million for a global total of $377.5 million. It is officially the biggest global opening for an animated movie of all time surpassing Frozen 2.

This massive opening is a great thing for Universal after investing a lot in the Nintendo brand overall. Expect them to announce a sequel soon as the Mario brand is super strong and all of its fans clearly showed up.

Amazon and Ben Afflecks new film also beat industry projections this week due to incredible word of mouth for the film. In its five day opening it made a strong $20.1 Million and in its three day $14.5 million. If anything shows the box office has recovered from the pandemic, this weekend would be it as both new movies did above expected.

However, due to the massive opening of Mario, Dungeons and Dragons lost a lot of ground. It suffered a harsh 61% drop and only brought in $14.5 million in its second weekend. This film would have done a lot better if Paramount had released it at a different time as it was thrown to the wolves going up against Mario.

Although Paramount can’t be too sad as Scream 6 has officially become the highest grossing film in the franchise at the domestic box office. In its fifth weekend it surpassed $103 million and just shows the success this franchise has had under fresh talent. Expect a Scream 7 announcement in the coming weeks as they will want a quick turn around just like they had with this one.

That’s it for this weeks box office report, did you see Super Mario and what do you think of its record opening?

Three new Star Wars Movies announced!!!

Today was the start of Star Wars Celebration and Lucasfilm kicked it off with a bang announcing the return of Star Wars features and announcing three different ones.

The first film announced will be directed by non other then James Mangold. He is going all the way back to an era of the Star Wars universe not seen before. He is going to the Dawn of the Jedi. This film will focus on the very first Jedi to wield the force.

The next movie announced will be directed by the king of Star Wars himself Dave Filloni. This film will be the culmination of The Mandalorian story and all of the shows set in the same time period. They have been teasing a big climatic event for the Mandoverse and this seems to be it. However it is unknown at this time weather any of the shows will continue on after this or if it will bring all the shows to a conclusion.

Finally the last film announced will be directed by award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. This film will take place 15 years after the Rise of Skywalker and will focus on the rebuilding of the new Jedi order. It was also confirmed that Daisy Ridley will return as the lead to play the Jedi hero Rey, who will be at the forefront building this new Jedi order. It would also be really nice to see John Boyega return as Finn, who could perhaps also be training as a Jedi which would be a nice for that character.

None of these films have titles or release dates yet. However this is a strong statement from Lucasfilm saying that Star Wars films are back. Which film are you most excited to see?

The Mandalorian Season 3 Ep 6 Breakdown: A lot of unexpected Cameos!!!

We now only have two episodes left of The Mandalorian Season 3 and what an interesting one todays was.

The episode opened with Bo Katans old team form last season working as bounty hunters and we see them doing one of their jobs. I have a feeling this episode opened with this to show who broke a off Gideon out of prison. I have a feeling a conflict is going to be created between the Mandalorian and the New Republic and that Din is going to be caught in the middle.

Bo and Din visit a new planet today which looked like one of those concepts you see for a perfect society in the future. However what I didn’t expect to see this episode was Jack Black and Lizzo herself!!! It’s really nice sing these big starts cameo here and a very good surprise, which is rare these days. I abs,u,Ty loved seeing Grogu flip into Lizzos arms and just seeing her walking around with Grogu made me laugh.

However they aren’t the only unexpected celebrity came we got this episode as none other then Christopher Lloyd also showed up as well. This planet just felt like the celebrity planet and it would of been funny if they had just filled it with well know celebrity’s.

Most of this episode focused on Din and Bo trying to figure out what were wrong with these old battle droids that have been recommissioned to sever the people of the planet. This episode had a really interesting commentary on how people rely on technology as Jack Blacks charter states that these people can’t live without these droids.

Although a recurring theme with this season is that we seem to keep going on detours to get to the main story which seems to be the retaking of Mandalore. This season has felt a bit all over the lace when it comes to the overall story and I am wondering if it’s because if the absence of Dave Filloni. This is as Jon Favro and Dave usually work on this show together, however during the making if this season Dave has been busy taking charge of the Ahsoka show, so seems to have been less involved in season 3. I feel that his absence can be felt this E season as it does fell different to previous season.

The episode ended with Din giving the Darksaber back to Bo Katan as he found a loophole that didn’t in,over her having to fight him for it. I’m not going to lie I’m glad Bo Katan has it because Din has done absolute nothing with it though whole time he has had it. I’m eod eating some badass scenes with Bo and this Darksaber in these last two episodes. It does feel now that we are ready to take back Mandalore, I just hope with only two episodes left we don’t go on anymore detours.

The Super Mario Bros Movie: How much do you love Mario?

The highly anticipated Super Mario Bros movies has released and brings Mario back to the big screen in a big way.

For some context I would say I’m a casual fan of Mario as I played quite a lot of the games growing up but haven’t played a Mario game in a while. Your enjoyment of this movie heavily depends on how much you like Mario. If you are a fan of the games and the characters then you will have an absolute blast with this film, however if you aren’t you probably wont enjoy it as much.

I would say the biggest problem with this movie is the story as it’s not that strong and quite a generic and simple one. The movie also expects you to know quite a bit about the world of Mario, so if you are new to the franchise through this film it doesn’t really help to introduce you to everything.

However that being said, this film is packed to the rim of all sorts of Easter eggs from the Mario franchise and it feels like you are being transported right into the games, so it’s a hell of a good time if you already like that world.

As a big fan of Mario Kart my favourite sequence from the film was where they had to build their Karts and then the whole sequence over the rainbow tracks. Although if they make a sequel I would love to see a classic race just like they have in the games.

I thought the whole cast did a fantastic job voicing these characters and bringing them to life and I must say I ended up not hating Chris Pratt as Mario as he did manage to win me over. Nevertheless my favoured charters from the movie had to be Princess Peach and Bowser, as both Anya Taylor Joy and Jack Black both did phenomenal jobs at bring these two characters to life. I would though also like to give a shout-out to the blue Luma who is in the cage at Bowsers prison is absolutely hilarious with everything he says, I could of watched a whole movie just centred on him.

As this is an illumination film one thing you can expect and defiantly get here is beautiful animation. Not only do the characters look spot on but the locations in this movie are beautiful, it really helps bring it all to life and makes you really feel like you are in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Overall, as a fan of the Mario games I had a fun time with this film, so if you have played the game it have kids then I would defiantly go and see this film as I’m sure you will have a blast with it.

Box Office: Dungeons and Dragons beat expectations!!!

The box office report for this past weekend is here and there is a lot to discuss.

Dungeons and Dragons opened this week and managed to open above expectations. It opens to a solid $38.5 domestically and due to its strong word of mouth it should hopefully have legs similar to Jumanji 2017. Now this isn’t an amazing opening weekend but this isn’t a super well know brand and a lot of the general audience just know it from Stranger Things. It also beat expectations overseas and opened to $33 million, for a global total of $71.5 million. The only hurdle this film really faces is The Super Mario Brothers that opens on Wednesday as that is also a family film, but is much more recognised by the general public. We will have to see how this does in the upcoming weeks to see if this could be the start of a new franchise for Paramount.

John Wick Chapter 4 had a solid hold but had a significant drop of 61%, mainly due to losing its premium screens and that fact that Dungeons and Dragons over performed. However it still brought in a good $28.2 million and hit $122.9 million domestically. Overseas it had quite a strong second weekend gaining another $35 million. John Wick 4 now has a global total of $244.9 million surpassing the first two entries in the series.

Shazam Fury Of The Gods continue to be an embarrassment of the DC universe as in its third week it only manage to bring in a pathetic $4.7 million for a domestic total of $53.6 million, which is around the originals opening. Zachery Levi confirmed this week that there has been no conversations about another Shazam move after after this disaster at the box office I don’t think we will see Shazam for a good while.

However Marvel isn’t doing any better with Ant man and The wasp Quantumania having nearly completed its run at the box office. It should have a domestic total of a tiny $215 million. Marvel does seem to have acknowledged their problems now as a lot of peoples projects have been delayed and a new report suggest that they are aiming for 3 movies and 2 shows a year.

As for the rest of the box office, Scream 6 continues to do strong business for the horror genre and has now surpassed $98 million domestic and is very close to surpassing $100 million, and will be the first Scream film to do so since the second one. I expect Paramount to announce the next instalment in the coming weeks. Creed 3 also continues to do well at the box office despite hitting digital and has now hit a domestic total of $148.6 million.

That’s it for the box office this week, what did you watch this last week?
