Box Office & Steaming Charts- Death on the Nile opens 1 and Raising Dion Season 2 premiers at 2.

Disney, Fox’s Death on the Nile opened at number 1 at the box office this weekend with $12.8 million, which is underwhelming considering this star studded cast. However this is expected due to older moviegoers still not wanting to return to theatres due to this pandemic. This can be seen in ticket sales as 77% of tickets brought were aged over 25 and 28% over 45.

The other new Movie to release this weekend was Marry Me( staring Jenifer Lopez) released simultaneously on Peacock and ended up debuting at No 3 making around $8 million. It was beaten out just slightly by last weeks winner Jackass forever, which got $8.1 million.

Uncharted also opened in 15 international markets this weekend, including the UK, and made $21.5 million and is set to open domestically on Friday.

Now over to streaming, where if we look at the Nielsen charts for the week of 10 January, Cobra Kai held strong at number 1 with Cheer season 2 coming in second. The Book of Boba Fett stayed level at number 5 with the debut of its third episode. For movies Encanto stayed strong at number 1 with the fourth instalment of Hotel Transylvania coming in second.

Finally, looking at Netflix’s global chart for the week of January 31, The Woman in the house across the street got to number 1 in its second week and Raising Dion season 2 premiered at number 2. Sweet Magnolias Season 2 premiered in 5th place. In films The Tinder Swindler shot to number 1 on its premiere week.

Uncharted- A Fun Action, Adventure Film

I wanted to start this off by saying I have a little experience with these games, so I can’t speak on how faithful it is to them. However I do know that this is meant to be a prequel of sorts to the game as it is set as an origin story for Nathan Drake.

Uncharted is a fun action adventure films very reminiscent of the classic adventure films such as Indian Jones. It also has quite a few twits and surprises that I didn’t see coming, so that added some more fun to the movie.

However the villains are quite predictable and the set up is something we have seen many times before with looking for lost gold, a stable of these adventure movies. However what distinguishes these movies the most is the actors in this film. Tom Holland does an outstanding job as Nathan Drake and you feel all the stunts he does on this film is possible due to how Tom Holland pulls them all off. Mark Wahlberg is also fantastic as Sully and makes you like him even though his character isn’t the most trustworthy.

Overall if you like Tom Holland and action, adventure films then I would highly recommend this film. Yes it’s not the most sophisticated film of all time but it is a lot of fun.

Jurassic World Dominion Trailer Released

The first trailer for the upcoming film Jurassic World Dominion has been released. It shows the aftermath to Fallen Kingdom where the Dinosaurs are now living among us in the outside world. It also shows the return of the original cast of Jurassic Park with Sam Neil, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum all reprising their roles for big parts of this movie. It also of course showcases Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard who have taken the lead of the new films.

It clearly teases a team up with them coming together to find a way to deal with the dinosaurs. And is tagged as the end of the Jurassic era hinting at the end to this overall story.

The film releases in theatres June 10 2022.

Boba Fett Finale- A Fun Ending To A Slow Show

This finale of Boba Fett managed to wrap up this story, with enough action and brought the focus back on Boba. This show started off quite slow and then drastically improved with the two Mandalorian focused episodes. The big question for this finale was could it redeem the character of Boba Fett. I would say sort of. This is as even though he had some great moments in this episode he was still overshadowed by the Mandalorian and Grogu who finally reunited in this episode.

Mando and Grogu

Robert Rodriguez did an alright job at directing but his action still needs work and I wouldn’t necessarily give him another Star Wars show. I also wouldn’t give this show another season as I don’t think it is required as Boba is better at being a supporting character earthier then carrying a whole show.

Overall this finale was enjoyable, but I can’t help but feel a bit sad as Boba was so clearly outshined in his own show by Mando and Grogu and makes you wonder what the whole point of this show was and why not just do The Mandalorian season 3 instead.

Box Office: Moonfall crashes and burns!!!!

Jackass Forever won this weekend with $23.5 Million at the box office. This was a better take then expected and is likely due to the high critical reception and the high turnout of young moviegoers with 18-34 counting towards 67% of tickets sold. This is another win for Paramount after Scream becoming a success in January, with a sixth instalment on its way.

Jackass Forever

Moonfall came it at number 2 gaining only $10 million for the entire weekend. The film cost $140 million to make meaning that the film won’t likely even be able to break even. However this is expected as disaster flicks have been going on a downhill spiral with Moonfall continuing this trend.

Moonfall

Spider-Man No Way Home was unseated from its number 1 spot today but still managed to hang in there in the top 3. In its 8th weekend it managed to pull in another $9.6 Million, cementing it as one of the most successful films of all time. It also means that it’s only $11.1 million from surpassing James Cameron’s Avatar domestically. After this success Sony isn’t giving up as they announced earlier in the week Dakota Johnson was cast as Madame Web.

Spider-Man No Way Home

The rest of the box office was quite slow with Scream 5 and Sing 2 both making around $4 million each coming in at 4th and 5th respectively.

Neighbours Axed!!!!!!

The Australian soap Neighbours has been axed by Channel 5 after 37 years on air just three years away from turning 40. This is due to a deal falling through between Channel 5 and the production company in funding for the show. It is expected to end in August this year.

Update- They are still looking for ways to get funding for the show to continue, so it’s not 100% yet.

Dakota Johnson cast as Madame Web.

According to reports by Deadline, Dakota Johnson is in talks to play Madame Web in a new movie produced by Sony. This is meant to expand Sonys marvel universe and will join their other film franchises such as Venom and Morbius and will be Sonys first female led marvel project. This is a change from the comics as Madame Web is an elderly woman, so Sony are clearly taking the character in a new direction. The film is set to be directed by S.J Clarke and Burk Sharpless is writing the screenplay.
