Abigail Review- Melissa Barrera leads a fun, gory horror flick!

Abigail has arrived in very gory fashion! Brought from the directors of Ready Or Not and the most recent Scream films, Radio Silence bring a new gory horror flick to the big screen.

Led by Melissa Barrera, this film follows a group of hunters out to capture a little girl who turns to be out more then they bargined for.

Going into to this film I was expecting a generic vampire film but I had a lot more fun then I was expecting. I found myself laughing a lot during this film, something that I wasn’t expecting. Radio Silence manage to tell a classic vampire story while adding modern elements to it to make it feel fresh and stand out.

The biggest strength of this film is the cast. Melissa Barrera proves that she is a horror icon and is a great lead. She is always at the top of her game here and you know you’re in for a good time when Melissa is covered in blood, and trust me there is a lot of it. Here she proves she doesn’t need the Scream franchise and that she can carry a new franchise on her back. In fact the Scream franchise has been dealt a massive blow, not only with the wrongful firing of Melissa but also with Spyglass not wanting to wait for Radio Silence either as they have proven time and time again that they are experts at fun, gory horror films.

As for the rest of the cast they are all perfectly cast here. Kathryn Newton was a standout as she was made to play Sammie. She brings a fun campy energy to the role which just lights up the screen every time she is on. Marvel really need to look at her most recent movies and allow her to bring more of that energy into the MCU. I also really loved Kevin Durand here who really brought the comedic energy for the film. There was multiple times that my theatre would laugh out loud when he was on screen. He has perfect comedic timing and you could tell he was having a lot of fun filming this.

I would also like to give a shoutout to Angus Cloud here as well as this is his final perforce and he was also at the top of his game here. The film is dedicated to him at the end and that made me tear up.

This film wouldn’t be complete without Alisha Weir who does a phenomenal job as Abigail. She is going to have a big future in Hollywood as she is incredibly talented.

Overall I really enjoyed this film and would be down for a sequel with Abigail and Joey maybe teaming up!

Abigail is a really fun horror flick which gets very glory at some points. Go and see this in the big screen and have fun watching it with an audience, you won’t regret it.

The Walking Dead: Dead City S1 EP 4 Breakdown- The Best One Yet

This article contains spoilers for Episode 4 of Dead City.

The latest episode of Dead City is here and we have a lot to talk about.

This is by far my favourite episode of the show so far. It’s not only full of great character moments for both Maggie and Negan but one of the best walker show downs we have seen in a while.

The episode opens with a flashback to where Negan is running the sanctuary and finds that the Croat has killed the young girl he told to let go. This is a scene which Negan has talked about and you can see the hurt in Negans eyes when he sees what has happened beneath him. This scene is parallel later on when Negan reunited with the Croat just to find out he just wants to please Negan by turning the whole of New York into a new sanctuary.

Jeffery Dean Morgan is absolutely incredible here and you can see both the hurt and fear in his face at the same time. In this moment Negan knows that all the pain and suffering that the Croat has caused is because of him and how he ran the sanctuary. It will be interesting to see how the relationship between the two evolve as on one hand you have the Croat pulling him back to his old life and then Maggie as a reminder on why he needed to change.

However one thing that did annoy me in this scene was the Marshall of it all. This is mainly because I don’t really understand what his point in the show is. He seems to be there just to slow Negan down and get in his way because even after saving his life he decides to arrest Negan in the middle of the city with no way out. I just dint really understand what he is trying to do and how he adds to the story in anyway.

I also loved the conversation between Maggie and Negan at the start as it starts to seem that they are begging to let the baggage between them fall apart. However as soon as she finds out he killed Luther her guard goes right back up and doesn’t even let him explain. I feel that Maggie doesn’t want to hear the reasonings to why Negan kills people because she is scared that she will understand why he killed Glenn all those years ago and is scared that she is more like him then she thinks.

Now we have to talk about the big fight in that arena with Maggie and the survivors and all those walkers. One thing The Walking Dead Universe has been missing as a whole lately is the danger of walkers. The final season kind of brought that back with the mutated walkers but we really haven’t seen much of them. However this episode showed us how dangerous they can be.

The Croat had set up a trap for our group as when they got into the arena he blew up the doors to let all the walkers in from the outside and by the looks of it there were hundreds. Seeing all these walkers just swarm in the arena felt fresh and made the characters actually feel like they were in danger. Every walker Maggie killed you could just feel the anger radiating off her as all she wants is her son back and is willing to do anything at this point to get this back.

That is where I feel Ginny comes in as Maggie last episode just saw her as a distraction that would prevent Negan from helping her find her son. However here when Ginny has locked herself in the cage I think Maggie realises she is just a child and doesn’t want to be the type of person to let a child die.

Through this whole show so far we have seen Maggie blur the lines of what is right and wrong as she is being pushed to the edge to get her son back but at the same time has Negan there and is a sort of reminder about what she could become.

Overall I absolutely loved this episode and I’m even more excited for the next one as it seems we have that massive walker abomination creature from the trailers.

The Walking Dead: Dead City S1 Ep1 Breakdown: A Very Strong Start!!!

A new era of The Walking Dead Universe has started and starts in New York. Dead City is the first off the new spinoffs that comes after the finale of TWD. The great thing about this show is how different and unique it feels from the mother show. If there wasnt Maggie and Negan you would think this was a whole new Zombie show.

The show picks up about 3 years after the finale of TWD and Maggie is searching for Hershel who has been kidnapped. A lot of people have been wondering out of everyone Maggie could ask for help why does she ask Negan. Well this makes it clear straight away as we find out that the person who has taken Hershel was in fact part of the saviours with Negan, meaning Negan knows his weaknesses.

Lauren Cohan and Jeffery Dean Morgan are allowed to shine here more then ever as the focus is purely on those two. Lauren gets to take Maggie to a much darker and emotional place as she is willing to do anything to get her son back. I love how this version of Maggie works with Negan as here he has got some of that classic Negan back, where Jeffery is allowed to have more fun with the character.

The time of this shows is set within the first minutes as we see Maggie absolutely destroy a walker and then break down into tears. Lauren Cohan gives it all her all and I have a feeling we will get to see the Lauren do her best here with the spotlight on her.

The setting of New York also allows for a whole new feeling as it looks different from anything we have seen in The Walking Dead Universe yet. It really does feel like a Dead City as you have empty streets and just the dead falling from the sky, which creates a new kinds of danger.

The whole show is also enchanted from the budget it has. The problem with both the main show and Fear is that you can see they have a limited budget however that isn’t the case here. With only 6 episodes and a much smaller cast you can really see the amount spent on this show and it pays off as the show just looks visually better form the sets to the way New York is in ruins.

Overall, I absolutely loved the first episode and it is exactly what I wanted from these spinoff shows and I very intrigued to see where this storyline goes and how the Maggie and Negan dynamic will evolve.

Fear The Walking Dead Mid Season Finale Breakdown: Weirdly feels like an end, but that tease is everything!!!!

We have reached the half way point of the final season of Fear and it did not end how I thought it would. This episode ended up wrapping up the Padre storyline with Madison taking over as the leader of Padre.

But first we need to talk about that tease at the very end. We see someone packing their bag off to find Madison after they hear her on the radio, but then see them put Alicias hand in that bag!!!! Now there is no confirmation on who it is but I really hope that it is Alicia and that she is going to reunite with Madison by the end of the season. Noting would make me happier to see Alicia and Madison reunite again and that is all I am hoping for in these last 6 episodes .

Now lets get back to the rest of the episode. This focused on Morgan trying to rescue Mo who was calling all the walkers from the shipping containers. Lennie James is a phenomenal actor here as he is putting everything he has into Morgan this season and it’s really panting off. We see Morgan have a break down due to what happened with Grace and see him go into his clear mode where he even ends up hurting Mo. I liked the idea of what they did here but the constant skipping did get quite annoying as they never showed us Morgan going full clear. Mode we just heard people talk about it.

We also got the wrap up of the Padre storyline, which I didn’t see coming as i thought it would be throughout the whole season, but instead we see that Shrike gets bit by her farther and then presumably her brother puts her down. I did feel it was slightly rushed as they have been teasing this big fight when in fact it all just happens very quickly.

I was absolutely shocked that Dwight and Sherry lost their kid, as i really thought he would survive but he didn’t. We clearly see that Junes so called cure can only prolong life but not stop the infection, which makes what happened with Alicia even more interesting. They had a heartbreaking scene at the end where they said they need to not be together so they didn’t lose anything else. Dwight also mentioned going back so i wonder if we will see much of them in the next part of the season as well.

I am very intrigued to see where the last 6 episodes go because this episode felt more like a finale then a mid season finale. I have a feeling we may not see Morgan until the finale as it felt like this was a goodbye to him and Mo as he set off to go back home and find Rick. After this ending i have no doubt that there will be some crossover between the main show and fear and i do feel we will at least see Carol at some point as we now know the two timelines are caught up.

I feel like the rest of the season will follow Madison and the rest of the fear characters build a home at Padre and unite the kids with their parents. However one thing that better happen soon is a reunion with Madison and Strand as we haven’t seen him or Luciana for the entire season so far. Im really hoping they have bigger parts in the second half as they are the OG gang, which is another reason in don’t think we will see much more of Morgan.

I think that these last 6 episodes will focus on the main Fear cast again such as Madison, Daniel, June, Strand, Luciana and fingers crossed the return of Alicia( which i could see them announcing at comic con). i really feel that they are going to focus on the core original cast with this second part to give them all a good farewell.

Overall, I didn’t love this episode but the teases it gave at the end got me very excited for how this show will end. If they give us Morgan returning home and an Alicia reunion then I will be very happy.

The Flash Review: Despite Everything it really is that good!!!

This review contains spoilers for The Flash.

After years and years of delays The Flash has finally hit the big screen. There has been a lot of talk about this movie being the best comic book film ever to be made and even though I disagree with that statement it is one hell of a film.

Before i get into the details of the film, i do want to quickly touch upon the fact that i am looking at this movie as its own thing and am not letting all the drama surrounding Ezra Miller impact my view on this film, as lots of people have put a lot of work into this film.

Like i said earlier The Flash is one hell of a movie. The emotion in this film is top notch. This film makes you feel all the emotions and really focuses on the mother and son dynamic. Going into this film i was worried about how the film would handle all this as i have watched all nine seasons of The Flash and this just seemed like the same story being retold. Now on one hand it is but it’s done in a much more emotional and nuance way here that makes you feel everything that Barry is feeling.

The reason this film works so well though is all down to Ezra Miller. They give one of the best performances i have ever seen in a comic book film and have to carry most of the film on their own. They are able to play two different Barrys for the whole movie but make them very different and unique to each other.

I was also massively surprised by Sasha Calle who actually isn’t in the film for that long but makes a strong impression as Supergirl. She takes the role in a darker direction but that works very well here and even though her action sequences has terrible VFX she still manages to show that she is a powerhouse. If i was james Gunn i would look at keeping her around as she is really good here.

I also loved seeing Michael Keaton return to playing an older Bruce Wayne but still has it. Although I was surprised by how little he was in the movie considering he has been the main focus in the ad campaign, meaning that the trailers have basically revealed all of his scenes.

This film also serves as a sort of farewell to the Snyderverse as it finally seems that we are now moving on from that. Ben Affleck did get one more chance to show how good he was in the role and it is a shame he had such bad experiences because he really is the perfect Batman. It was also nice to see Gal Gadot again, now she still has the chance to come back but i have a feeling this was the last we have seen of her. We also see Barry and Arthur together in the post credit scene however even here this version seems different to the one we know, so it will be interesting to see how this connects to Aquaman 2.

After seeing this film I can see why James Gunn would want to hire Andy Muschietti to direct their new Batman film as he handles the family dynamics here really good, but I would just hope he would get some assistance with the VFX.

One of the things that weighs the film down is the third act battle. Now im sure you I’ve seen the big fight in all the trailers where you have Zod invading and the heroes have to stop him. The problem with this whole sequence is that the VFX on it as absolutely horrible. It just looks weird in a way you know its all fake and just makes the whole battle feel kind of plasticky and takes you out of the movie as it just looks off composted to the rest of the film.

Also this is a multiverse film which means expect cameos, however they just dont hit the same they have done with Marvel. The main reason for this is that when they appear at the end of the film the majority of these cameos are just digital as the actors are no longer here so they just dont look or feel real in any aspect and therefore doesnt have the same feeling that the Marvel films have had. These cameos would have been much more effective of they had gotten actors who could still play the role instead of using digital avatars. For example it would have been great if they could of got characters from the arrowverse and even Christian Bale to cameo as i think they would of had a much stronger effect.

They even ended the film with a cameo and that was that Ben Affleck had been replaced by George Clooney in the main timeline. This was funny at first but also kinda weird as we know the DCU is being rebooted with James Gunn, so I am going to assume after the ending of this film that it will take place in a completely different universe as we know james Gunn is looking for a new Batman. i think this film would of been much stronger of they just stuck to having Micheal Keaton return instead of stuffing in all these cameos at the end.

Overall this is one of the best DC films in a while and one of the best Comic book films ever made. It’s a shame the film is wrapped up in such controversy but if you can separate it then I think you will have a blast with The Flash.

Fear The Walking Dead S8 Ep4 Breakdown: Morgan Jones comes full circle!!!

This episode saw Morgan go back home to deal with his son who he had left to walk around as a walker ever since his death. It was really cool to go back to the very begging and see where this universe all began. However you can tell it’s not filmed in the same place as the original pilot as the surroundings area didn’t look exactly the same.

Lennie James showed why he has become a staple of The Walking Dead Universe as he gave an emotional heartbreaking perforce this episode. We finally get to see Morgan come to terms with having to shoot his wife as everyone he goes to shoot a walker he sees his wife but finally does what needed to be done to protect his new family. It was honestly so heartbreaking to see him have to kill walker Dwayne to save Mo but he finally was able to move in from something that has been holding onto him since the begging of the outbreak.

Part of me wanted this episodes to be a Morgan standalone so we could see him deal with his past without any interruptions, but I understand the addition of Mo and Grace as it showed he still has a family even if he has lost his old one.

I did feel that Sherry and Dwight were out of place this episodes as they were only really there for the ending to help Morgan find June next episode. They just felt like they were in the way and took time away from the amazing work Lennie James was doing.

I also wish the show was more definitive with the cure June has come up with, as Finch seems to be back to normal, indicating that this does work. However we are yet to see the long term consequences of this, which would be another good reason to bring Alicia back for the end.

The episode ended with Grace getting bit and Morgan on a mission to save her by getting her to June. However I have a feeling this won’t work out as we know Grace is already dying from the radiation she has been exposed to, so it looks like Grace may not survive much longer.

Overall even though this season hasn’t been perfect it is much more fast paced then previous seasons and overall am enjoying where it is going, especially when it comes to Morgan and Madison.

Box Office: Across The Spider-verse surpasses expectations!!!!

Spider-Man Across the Spider-verse opened this past week and did better then anyone expected. If we go back to 2018 the first spider-verse film did okay but only made around $300 million despite wining an Oscar. However since then the audience has grown on streaming and noting shows that more then these box office results!!!

During its opening weekend Across the Spiderverse opened to a massive $120.5 million domestically, becoming the second biggest opening of the year and the third biggest opening for a Spider-Man film. It’s also doing spectacular business overseas as well as it opens with $88.1 million, for a global total of $208.6 million. Due to the fanatic word of mouth it’s will be very exciting to see how high this film can go, as it is already close at passing the original.

Despite the massive over performance of Spider-verse The Little Mermaid held solid in its second week, dropping 57% bringing in another $40.6 million for a domestic total of $186.2 million and will pass $200 million later this week. Domestically the film is a hit as it is pacing the same as Aladdin. However the problem is overseas as it doesn’t seem to be connecting especially in Asia where the film is basically DOA.

However it did have a strong hold overseas thanks to strong numbers coming in from Europe grossing an extra $42.3 million for a global total of $326.7 Million. It is a shame it’s not doing better overseas as in my opinion it is the best live action remake Disney has done so far with perfect casting with Halle Bailey and Jonah Hauer King. However it could comply blow up in streaming later this year, similar to Moana and Encanto.

As for the rest of the box office, Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 has now passed $780.1 million surpassing the first one and is expected to end its run between $830 and $870 million around the second instalment.

Fast X has also crossed $600 million worldwide and is set to debut for purchase this Friday. This franchise has the complete opposite problem to The Little Mermaid with it doing weak at the domestic box office but mega business overseas. It’s expected to end its run around the same as Fast 9. Universal also clearly aren’t ready to put this franchise to bed either as they just announced a Hobbs movie set to bridge the gap between Fast X and Fast 11 and also have multiple spin-offs in development.

That’s the box office for this week, what do you think of Across the Spider-verse massif I’ve opening?

Fear The Walking Dead Season 8 Ep 2 Breakdown: June isn’t messing around!!!

This episode focuses on June as we find out what has happened to her in the past 7 years. We find out at the start that she is hiding from Padre as she escaped after being captured by them on the rafts. She is knocking Padre soldiers out and chopping their fingers off. At first this seemed really odd and weird but as the episode progressed and we find out why it was actually for a very heartbreaking reason.

We find out June thought Alicia was the key to a cure for a bite as she knows she lasted months after being bit as she was exposed due to radiation. This leads to Padre forcing her to do experiments on people who have been bit to see if there is a cure. This could be very vital to the walking dead universe as a whole as we know that Alicia did in fact survive the bite and she is out there somewhere, which could leads to Alicia being the cure for the apocalypse.

The reason June was chopping off Padres soldiers fingers was because she never wanted anyone else’s finger on the trigger to threaten anyone she cared about again. It was very clear that June had been through hell these past 7 years and Jenna Elfman gave a fantastic performance and really made you feel everything she was feeling.

We also got to see Dwight and Sherry this episode as June accidentally shoots them as she didn’t realise who it was. We find out that they have been walking with Padre for the past 7 years so that they can keep an eye on their son, who they are escorting for a surgery. We find out that they haven’t seen much of each other as Padre has kept them separated for these Severn years, but finally come to the realisation that they have a chance to escape now with their son.

However as it is fear noting is that easy. In one of the mist emotional and dark scenes of fear i have ever seen, Padre force June to continue the experiments on Dwight and Sherry’s son as they force him to get bit by a walker. I genuinely thought we would see Madison and Morgan come to the rescue just before the kid got bit but hat didn’t happen and they actually went through with it.

The episode ended with Madison helping Morgan escape while she got left behind with Padre. One of the things I’m loving this season is that we get to see multiple characters in an episode again instead of waiting half a season to see our favourites.

This season feels like it’s building to a grand finale and so far I’ve been enjoying what season 8 has to offer. I have a feeling as the season progresses these episodes are going to become more and more tense as we reach the endgame.

What did you think of this episode and how are you feeling about Fear overall?

Box Office: Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3 has a very strong hold!!!

The big question going around Hollywood at the moment is if superhero fatigue has set in amongst audiences, as both Altman 3 and Shazam 2 underperformed at the box office. Well Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3 arrived just in time to prove everyone wrong.

In its second weekend Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3 had a magnificent hold at the box office with only a 49% drop. It made a strong $60.5 for a domestic total of $213.2 million. It also had a great hold overseas as it made a massive $91.9 million and has crossed $500 million worldwide, beating Antman and The Wasp Quantumania while box office in 2 weeks.

This strong hold for Guardians shows that there isn’t a problem with superhero fatigue but in fact is plainly based on the quality of these films. Audiences will just happily skip a film and wait for streaming if the word of mouth isn’t great. Studios just need to focus on making great movies and there won’t be any more problems.

As for the rest of the box office, Super Mario Bros continue to climb the charts surpassing Minions to become the 4th biggest animation film of all time, with a global total of $1.21 Billion.

Speaking of franchisee going strong Warner Bros Discovery have hit gold with Evil Dead Rise. It was originally set to go straight to HBO Max but has now made over $131 million worldwide and only cost $19 million to produce. With these bug numbers you know for a fact they are brainstorming ways to keep this success going.

That’s it for the box office this week. What did you watch and what do you think about the idea of Superhero fatigue?

Netflix Charts: Queen Charlotte rules over the charts!!!

The Netflix charts for the week of May 1- May 7 are here and there is a lot to discuss.

The Bridgerton prequel series Queen Charlotte debuted this week and just like its mother show is ruling the charts. With only 6 episodes it easily topped the charts. Ever since the original show premiered it has ruled over the Netflix charts with both seasons in the top 10 shows of all time. If Queen Charlotte keeps up its momentum then it could also break the top 10. Shonda Rhimes has recently said that she would be interested in doing a season 2 and based on these numbers don’t be shocked if that is the case.

Both Sweet Tooth Season 2 and Firefly Lane Season 2 went up in hours watched in there second week in the charts. Both of there first seasons popped in as well showing people either catching up or getting into these shows. Sweet Tooth was also recently renewed for a third and final season, which has already been filmed.

The Diplomat and The Night Agent also continue to do well on these charts and both have already been renewed for a second season. However we may be in for a long wait for these due to the writers strike going on which could push these shows to the end of 2024 or 2025 depending on how long the strike goes on for.

Over on the film side there is nothing much to shout about. A Man called Otto came it at first place due to Sonys deal with Netflix, followed by the first Pitch Perfect film, which also joined the service this week.

That’s it for the Netflix charts this week. Did you watch Queen Charlotte and would you watch a second season?
