Box Office Report: Super Mario Brothers Movie continues to reign!!!!

The Super Mario Brothers Movie contained to dominate the box office this past weekend at the box office. In its second weekend it managed to only fall 41% and brought in a massive $87 million domestic. It has now broken the record for the best second weekend for an animated film ever. Universal must see the money that is in these Nintendos property’s and are most likely working on what projects to put out next as they are sat on a lot of properties that clearly a lot of people are interested in.

It also contained to do great business overseas as well as it brought in a spectacular $94.1 million overseas, with a also very strong hold of just dropping 44.9%. It currently stands at $678 million worldwide and is projected to make over $1 billion when all is said and done.

However it wasn’t all good news for Universal this weekend, as people clearly weren’t in the mood for vampires as Renfield only managed to bring in a disappointing $7.7 million. If this had been released during Halloween I feel it would of done much better as it very much is the Halloween version of Violent Night that came out for Christmas last year.

The Popes Exorcist also opens this weekend but also came under expectations grossing just $9.1 million but this film does have a significantly lower budget compared to Renfield so will have an easier time becoming profitable.

John Wick Chapter 4 continues to have good hold for the franchise and has now become the highest grossing film of the franchise having a strong global total of $349.1 Million. Talking about good holds Air also had a solid hold falling only 46% in its second weekend and brought in a solid $7.7 million and has crossed $50 million worldwide. The word of mouth on this film has been excellent so will explode when it hits Amazon Prime.

Finally some good news for Dungeons and Dragons as it had a solid hold in its third week brining in $7.4 million domestic. However it held even better overseas dropping just 11% brining in in $13.8 million. Clearly people are staring to take notice to this now Mario has been released and hopefully this will build momentum for when it hits straining where it should explode.

That’s it for the box office report this week, what did you watch in theatres this weekend?
