Nielsen Charts: The Mandalorian starts strong, while Outer Banks continues to dominate!!!

The Nielsen charts for the week of February 27- March 5 are here and there is a lot to discuss.

The Mandalorian debuted within this week and started off strong coming in third on the original chart and fifth overall. This is a strong start considering it only released with one episode at around 40 minutes. There has been a lot of negative talk going around about unit this season, with people claiming that no one is watching. Now I do feel there isn’t as much talk around this season there clearly is still an audience as peole are in fact watching this show still. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the show performs in the coming weeks.

Outer Banks continues to show its importance to Netflix as in season threes second week there is still over 2000 million minutes viewed, which shows how popular the show is over all with a lot of peole just binging all of the seasons. This explains why Netflix gave this show an early renewal as a way of not having the wait for the next season be as long as the wait for season 3 was.

Paramount Plus also had a win here this week as their Yellowstone spinoff 1923 managed to make it into the overall chart, which makes it the first original of theirs to make it to this chart as Yellowstone it self comes from the Paramount network. This clearly explains why Paramount is expanding this universe fast and shows that they can have a successful Yellowstone show without Kevin Costner.

The Last Of Us continues to do incredibly strong on HBO Max with its eight episode and if I were HBO I would try and get season 2 fast tracked as quick as possible because these massive waits or these shows are getting ridiculous. Especially as it sounds we may not even get season 2 until 2025. Networks and streamers need to be trying to get these seasons out faster as there is a lot of content and you don’t want your show being left behind.

Now as per usual the movie numbers aren’t as strong as the TV side however Netflix’s We Have A Ghost premiered at the top of the chart with strong numbers. A magic Mike film also popped into the top 5 as people got ready for the new one that just hit theatres at the time.

Also to note is the first Hunger Games has made it it to the top 20 as they were just added to Netflix and have been doing good numbers on their own charts. Lionsgate has confirmed that the reason the films were added back to Netflix was to build up hype and conversation around the brand to get people excited for the prequel that is set to release in November and clearly that is working.

That’s it for the Nielsen charts this week, what did you watch and how do you feel about having to wait years for another season of a show?
